Zum Hintergrund: Seagate Technology gab heute bekannt, dass es eine dreijährige Entwicklungs-Partnerschaft mit CERN openlab abgeschlossen hat. Die Kooperation beinhaltet die weitere technische Entwicklung der Seagate Kinetic Open Storage Plattform. Ziel ist es demnach, CERN (Europäische Organisation für Kernforschung) bei der Speicherung-/Verwaltung von rund 100 Petabyte an Daten zu unterstützen, die der Large Hadron Collider (LHC) bislang erzeugt; daneben falls zusätzlich 2-3 Petabyte monatlich an, die direkt im Zusammenhang mit den aktuellen Experimenten beim LHC stehen.
