The aim of this project is to exploit the new Weblogic and Java 8 features to improve the quality of CERN Java infrastructure and to work with the CERN developer community on ways to increase productivity.
The aim of this project is investigate the use of public cloud services to run services for organisations like CERN. It opens new possibilities but requires careful investigation to balance advantages against disadvantages. This project will start with these topics: What is the best model for CERN Java applications offered by Oracle? How to transparently move applications between CERN and Oracle Public cloud? Different levels of cloud integration are possible: Study hybrid cloud, the integration of Weblogic with CERN cloud / URL integration / Single Sign On.
The Rackspace/CERN cloud federation project will build on the identity federation developed together in 2014 to create a full orchestration capability, where multi-cloud solutions can be built in the OpenStack Heat service and using shared installation images and service catalogues to identify the available cloud resources and manage virtual machines in remote clouds with a single identity. This will allow easy deployment of applications across different OpenStack clouds.
All developments will be carried out within the OpenStack development process and reviewed at Openstack Summits with code submissions under the Apache 2.0 license.
The Rackspace/CERN containers project aims to deploy container technologies on the CERN cloud and elsewhere for use by High Energy Physics applications investigating functional, scalability and performance benefits of these technologies and contributing back to the open source project for use by the OpenStack community. This scope of work will open a new world of containers for scientists who will benefit from simplified and streamlined use of this framework.
All developments will be carried out within the OpenStack development process and reviewed at Openstack Summits with code submissions under the Apache 2.0 license.
