The IVI Global leader in IT business value award was presented to CERN openlab head Bob Jones (in the middle of the picture) on 5th June 2012, at the IVI Summer Summit in Ireland, by Philip Nolan (on the left of the picture), President of the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and by Martin Curley (on the right of the picture), Director of Intel Labs Europe, Senior Principal Engineer and Global Director of IT Innovation at Intel Corporation.
The Innovation Value Institute was co-founded in 2006 by the National University of Ireland Maynooth and Intel, with the goal of fostering a global gold standard for best practice in IT management.
While previous IVI Global award winners include CIOs of leading companies such as Apple, Cisco and Facebook, this year Bob Jones accepted the award on behalf of CERN IT department and CERN openlab. IVI recognises the extraordinary business value created by the establishment of a global, cost effective, scalable IT infrastructure to meet CERN's unparalleled data transfer needs and storage requirements.
Martin Curley, Director of Intel Labs Europe, Senior Principal Engineer and Global Director of IT Innovation at Intel Corporation, who presented the award said "As an example as computing technologies enter the many-core era, it is more apparent than ever that the future of computing lies in the effective utilization of parallel and many-core architectures. CERN has taken a leadership approach in help advance the state of parallel programming."
