Geneva, Switzerland – July 4, 2012

News facts

  • Oracle congratulates the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), as well as the LHC community at large, for their results related to the Higgs boson search announced today. Oracle is proud to have collaborated with the laboratory for the past 30 years, through the deployment of numerous innovative technologies, mainly in the domains of storage, scalability, replication of data in distributed research infrastructures, and analysis of large data sets across different sites.
  • Oracle has been part of CERN openlab, a framework for evaluating and integrating cutting-edge IT technologies to be used by the worldwide LHC community, since the first openlab phase in 2003. To further support the research activity of the LHC community, Oracle renewed in 2012 its membership to this initiative for the next three-year phase. The work in CERN openlab IV will focus on virtualisation, research analytics, and complex exascale data management and analytics.
  • The story of this partnership and the successes arising from it, shows how continued cooperation between academia, industry, governments and the scientific community can address unique technological and organisational challenges.
